Training to Support Specialists in Children's Mental Health During Wartime
11.10.2024

The NGO "Community Self-Help" recently conducted a training session as part of the Global Course on Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) for children affected by wartime conditions. This session focused on equipping specialists from Sumy and Chernihiv regions with the tools needed to support children and families in difficult circumstances.

Marta Pyvovarenko, the trainer and Head of the MHPSS Quality Assurance Department at the NGO "Community Self-Help," shared her insights:

"Participants appeared exhausted after prolonged periods of stress. Being in a safe, comfortable environment positively impacted their engagement, as noted by the participants themselves. In this supportive atmosphere, they absorbed the material better. While initially reserved, they became more open and engaged in group activities as the training progressed, thanks to the conducive conditions."

This collaborative effort aims to prepare specialists to better address the mental health needs of children affected by the war.

The “Supporting the Mental Health of Children in De-Occupied Territories of Ukraine” Project is implemented by the Boston Children's Hospital's Global Health Program of Harvard University (USA) in partnership with the NGO “Community Self Help” (Ukraine).
